Heart for the City has been working with African communities to
transform the lives of thousands of people who live in abject poverty.
Partnering with individual charities and welfare organisations, Heart for the City has been creating opportunities for slum communities to generate their livelihood with respect and dignity.

Heart for the City works with established networks of charitable workshops, Community Schools, Micro Finance Organisations, Agriculture and Heath Care projects in Africa to deliver high quality services.
We constantly endeavor to build capacity among the ordinary people and give all the opportunity to thrive.
Every year we encourage University students through Heart for the City students society to volunteer in community development and give their time in some of our projects.

Design students have helped to enhance the quality of the products to give the a chance in the western market.
In August 2013 Heart for the City in conjunction with Zuri foundation and Walk against crime sponsored 14 young dancers from Mathare Slums in Kenya to visit the UK. They had great opportunities to dance and perform in various venues including the York City centre.

This and many similar opportunities enhances the confidence of young people who have been born and raised in slums to have a new experience and to aim higher in Life.
Through our mentoring program we have been supporting young artists to look beyond employment and using their talents to create their own business thereby employing themselves and others.

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Heart for the City, we are setting up a fund to support 10,000 young people to start their own Micro business .
We will create business centres and offer start up capital for the 10,000 young people who will qualify for the grant which will be won through open bids in the local communities.
The Young people will then each get a business mentor, a visit to one of the 200 hundred participating business schools, accountancy and business plan support and regular online supervision and mentoring.

At the moment we have 146 businesses supporting this vision and we hope by June 2014 we will have recruited 250 business to participate.
Our sponsored young business men and women will be offered the opportunity to sit in board meetings, spend quality time with Top CEO’s and get the opportunity to shadow successful business owners.

We hope this Vision will not only create wealth, but will also create responsible citizens, reduce poverty and enhance quality of life.
The video below shows one model of business development that is already in place.
